Life in the minors

My favorite statement of ALL times is "It must be nice married to a pro baseball player." This is something that is said more than it should be to me when people find out Jake plays baseball. Most of the time, they are referring to financial stability. That is why I think it's pretty funny if they only knew the difference from minors to majors. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!

Their are so many perks to the life of baseball, and I am so happy where we are at right now in our life! I am so glad Jake and I have had to experience what we have already this season. It has only made us stronger, and will appreciate success in life greatly in our future!  I couldn't see us being anywhere else, BUT...sometimes it gets old especially after the same schedule everyday!

Before our date

I've had a lot of people ask what our schedule is like during the season, so here is a bit of a breakdown in the minors.

This month Jake is gone 18 days, and home 9 days! Luckily, i'm going on vacation (back home) and can't imagine being alone almost the entire month! It was a perfect time to get off work since so many families are traveling for summer, and be able to go home to see my family, and friends!

The morning is when Jake and I really get to spend time with each other because once he gets to the field he is there the rest of the day until the game is over. Unfortunately my work schedule conflicts with this a lot, most couples are home at night, instead of the morning. I try my best to schedule later morning so I can spend time with him, in addition to us only having one car and need to take him to the field in the afternoon.

When he arrives to the field, he eats lunch, work outs, have a live bp (bull pen) or has to shag, and the rest is history what they do in that clubhouse until the game! I know they sit around A LOT, and play cards!

The games are usually at 7 pm every night, and don't get over until 10 or later (hate extra innings!!) Jake is at the field around 10 hours or more a day, and that is not including when they travel!! I try my best to accommodate my work schedule on the home stands to have a little bit of time with him in the morning, plus we only have one car out here and not many players live in our neighborhood. That has been challenging because of work. It makes the most sense right now where we are at because he is at the field all day, and when he's not usually travelingMost wives/girlfriends will travel especially in the minors because the distance usually isn't that far, and a handful don't have children either! The furthest I believe is 4 hours, so they are able to follow the bus in their car, stay at the same hotel, and be able to see a new city! In the minors, two boys to each hotel room, so that is the tricky part! I have not traveled with him yet, but usually when the wife comes or another girl, they will pay for an extra room,  then the two players will split that cost in order to not be with a roommate (I need privacy, and not have another player sleeping across from me!!) AWKARD

We get about 2 off days per month, and I try my best not to work on those since that is the only time Jake and I have together! Unfortunately the last one (last week) I was sick OF COURSE happens on our off day, and we didn't get to do anything fun...Most guys will relax, sleep, go fishing, do whatever! Jake always tries to get me to go fishing or golf (both of those do not sound fun to me!!

Our Favorite days are Sunday games because they get done at 7 instead of 10 pm!! Last week a big group of us went out to dinner, movie, and Dave & Busters! It felt like we had a normal life! It felt weird having dinner with Jake, because every night I eat alone (they provide the boys with two meals at the field, which is great because they have a few options to choose from, and Jake eats sooo much!!!) This is considered apart of our "dues." Jake has to pay dues for washing his uniform, cleaning around locker room, food, etc (AKA: clubhouse dues.) I always get irritated when he says he needs this much for dues..I'm thinking i'll be the clubby for that!! Honestly, the one here is so awesome, and has a ton of options for food, always fresh fruit, sandwich meat, so it's worth it he treats the boys great!
Some of the girlfriends, and only one in this picture has been traded so far (that's very shocking usually more by now)

The baseball season gets old pretty quickly 7 days a week, and always GO GO GO!!! I am thankful to have girls to sit with in the stands! We talk the entire time, and it makes the game go by quicker! They say you can always tell who baseball girls are..Usually sitting alone, or with other girls talking the entire game and not paying attention! True statement to both! I hate sitting alone, so i'm glad to have one of the girlfriends out here full time with me! If I am alone, and this sounds terrible I usually bring a magazine or on my phone the entire time.. Have you ever sat at baseball games night after night?? You have to find ways to entertain yourself especially when your married to the pitcher who only plays every 5 days! ITS BORING!!

The off season which concludes the season in September unless they make the playoffs, finals, world series, winter ball and yadada.. most of the boys come home in September until February-March for spring training! This is when we have a "normal life." Jake is a freelance interpreter for deaf people, and I will hopefully find a nanny job or something with fashion this off season! It is nice having him home at nights, and off on the weekends! I look forward to that time with our families, and so thankful we are home for the holidays!!

This is how I feel when I think of the off season!!
